Wetherby with Linton Church Restoration Appeal

The Tower of our Parish Church is a landmark in Wetherby.

For generations the bells in the Tower have rung to celebrate weddings, national events, and to invite us to prayer.

The Tower is part of the beauty of Wetherby and features in the lives and stories of many of our families.

The craftsmen and stonemasons built well; now it is our turn to ensure that the Tower and Buildings stand, and serve the community, for many more years.

Michael

The Reverend Canon Michael Cross

The Church of St James has served the community of Wetherby since 1840

Today it has a thriving congregation led by a team of dedicated clergy supported by an active Parochial Church Council.

By support from the regular congregation the Church works towards ensuring that it can meet its day-to-day financial obligations but this is insufficient to meet the Capital Costs of maintaining the Fabric of the Church.

After 168 years the Church is in need of renovation, some of which is now pressing. Problems with the stonework to the Tower, Nave and Chancel have been identified which will cost over £100,000 to rectify

Whilst the regular congregation of the Church will continue to support the ongoing activities they urgently need your help to raise this money and ensure that the Church remains available to all who may wish to use it for Christenings, Weddings, Confirmations and Funerals, or even just enjoy the annual Christingle or attend the Remembrance Sunday Services.

If, as a member of the congregation of the Church, you already contribute through your regular giving we would ask you to try to “find a friend”. Do you have a relative, neighbour or work colleague who would be willing to help? If so, please pass this leaflet to them and invite them to contribute to this Appeal.

If you have used the Church in the past for Christenings or Weddings, or may need to use it in the future please consider how you may help.

If you subscribe to the Church Magazine you are already demonstrating an interest in the Church, can you help us to ensure its future?

This need not be in the form of a one-off gift, although that would be most welcome, but a regular donation, paid by Standing Order would be equally appreciated. If we could all give £20 per year , or more, then we would be able to plan the work on the Tower and Church over the foreseeable future.

We all need the services of the Church at some time in our lives, whether it be on a regular basis or just occasionally.

Let us all work together to make sure the Church will always be there when we need it!

Thank you
